about

Silk Textures' latest single, "Glancing," unites the talents of three of the deep house imprint's most esteemed talents: Claes Rosen, Solila, & Adam Byrd. Literally three years in the making, the release includes the beloved Original Mix, which first appeared on Silk Sampler #1, way back in January 2009.

Swedish star Claes Rosen, who has moved us time and time again over the last decade with lush, layered arrangements and masterful piano, shows us once again that there is perhaps no other artist who shares his gift for melody. A simple intro rhythm and full-bodied pad sets the Original Mix off on a chilled tone, a mood that is maintained throughout the track. Specifically, a vintage deep house bass and a variety of melodies are progressively added in the first half of the tune, including a jazzy piano lead and a funky background flute effect. The beat slowly drops out in the break, as we are left with the soothing, yet uplifting sounds of a veritable symphony of jazzy instrumentation.

Russian veteran Solila is well-known in progressive, deep, and indie dance circles alike for his innovative rhythms and melodies. He does not disappoint here, as he manages to successfully maintain the soothing, deep spirit of the original, while all-the-while "facelifting" it with a bigger, bouncier rhythm. Throughout the tune, we are also treated to a variety of innovative samples, some of which are "spoken word," as well as 80's-inspired percussion and synth effects. Also, proving that he also can hold his own on the ivories, Solila provides some lovely variation on the lead piano melodies.

Finally, Silk Textures label star Adam Byrd (Hungary) offers his own take, a much more stripped-down affair, with seemingly acoustic, "live" instrumentation throughout. A jazzy drum rhythm, a few oscillating pads, and cavernous bass are the only elements used to set the mood in the first quarter of the track, yet there is an elegance and sophistication to Byrd's style %u2014 even at this early juncture in the track %u2014 that is truly superlative. A variety of additional effects are added at the quarter turn, including a funky synth lead and a variety of more subtle, dancing synth progressions. The break features a lovely new interpretation of the piano, as well as a several other variations of now-familiar themes from the Original.
